The American Red Cross says one of the best ways to prepare for a tornado is to have an emergency preparedness kit for your family with:
• Water—one gallon per person, per day (3+ day supply)
• Food—nonperishable, easy to prepare items (3+ day supply) and manual can opener
• Flashlight
• Batterypowered or handcrank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible)
• Extra batteries
• First aid kit
• Medications (7day supply) and medical items
• Multipurpose tool
• Sanitation and personal hygiene items
• Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
• Cell phone with chargers
• Family and emergency contact information
• Extra cash
• Emergency blanket
• Whistle
• Extra clothing, hat and sturdy shoes
• Blankets or sleeping bags
• Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)
• Extra set of car keys and house keys
• Towels
• Work gloves
• Tools/supplies to secure your home, such as plastic sheeting, Duct tape and scissors
